The Library Instruction Program is designed to
provide instruction based on the needs of students, faculty,
and staff. Within this program the library offers tours, walk-in
classes that are open to everybody, workshops specifically
for faculty, and faculty can request library instruction for
their classes.
The large number of electronic resources, including books,
newspapers, magazines, and journals as well as the Library
catalog and the Web provide a multitude of resources for research
and learning. However, they can also be a source of frustration
for novice users. Our program is designed to help you to navigate,
select, and evaluate these resources.
Since Fall 2005, the Library has provided instruction sessions for SPE 100/102 classes as part of its information literacy program. Additionally, beginning with the 2007-08 academic year, the Library provides instruction for ASAP classes.
Library classes take place in room S-404, a "Smart" classroom with an interactive whiteboard.
A one-period long Introduction to Library Resources by a member of the library
faculty is available upon request. These classes can either follow the outline
below or they can be tailored to meet your curriculum needs to help with
research, book reports, term papers, speeches, etc.
- Description of the organization of the library and its services.
- Demonstration of the online catalog (CUNYPlus) including keyword, title,
and location search.
- Introduction to the World Wide Web including search engines and
evaluation of Websites.
- Demonstration of how to search library databases (such as EBSCO Host) to
find journal and magazine articles, how to access databases remotely, and how
to retrieve results.

citation styles and academic honesty.
The Library Instruction Program includes several options. Faculty can choose one
or another as they deem appropriate:
- Specialized subject lectures
