Copying and Printing in the Library


About the Copiers

Self-service copy machines are available whenever the Library is open. They are located in the main library (S410) and the Quiet Study area (S430). Copies are available in letter size (8 1/2 x 11) and legal size (8 1/2 x 14) only. Special paper, transparencies, and color copies are not available.

Student Aides are available to clear paper jams, add paper, and deal with any other minor problems. However, the Library does not own the copy machines and cannot make repairs.

Fitterman Hall houses both an Add Value and Change Machine on the seventh floor Quiet Study area. The Murray Building houses a coin-operated copy machine on the tenth floor lounge.

Add Value to Your Card

Cash

Use the On Cash Machines to add value to your BMCC ID card. They are located near the main library (S410) the Quiet Study area (S430) and the Fitterman Hall seventh floor Quiet Study. Copies are available in letter size (8 1/2 x 11) and legal size (8 1/2 x 14) only. Special paper, transparencies, and color copiers are not available.

  • Use bills only (one, five, ten, and twenty dollar denominations).
  • Machines do not accept debit or credit cards

Debit or Credit Cards

Students can also use the Paper Cut application through the BMCC portal to print using a debit or credit card.

  1. Visit the BMCC website and and click on BMCC Portal in the top right hand corner.
  2. Type Username and Password in the Secure Logon for BMCC Portal.
  3. Click the PaperCut icon.
  4. Click Add Credit.
  5. Input amount you would like to credit and click Continue.
  6. Enter Credit Card or PayPal information and click Pay Now.

Logging into the Computers

In order to access the computers, students must now input their current BMCC Portal information. All new and returning students must set their BMCC Portal username and password at the Student Helpdesk. (S-112)


How to Make Copies/Scan*

You can use your BMCC ID card to make copies, scan, and print. Your account is created on the second business day after you receive your BMCC/CUNY ID card. By default, your account number is your 12-digit Student ID card number and your PIN is the year and month of your birth followed by the number 01 (YYYYMM01). Scans are limited to twenty pages only.

With BMCC ID

  1. Swipe your BMCC ID card into the card reader.
  2. Enter your PIN #. Ex: (YYYYMM01)
  3. Press "login" button.
  4. Press "Use Copier Functions" button.
  5. Balance to your account is displayed.
  6. Press "Next" button.
  7. Press Program, then select paper settings, either Letter or Legal size page settings.
  8. Each time you press print, the cost is subtracted from your balance.
  9. When you are finished, press Logout button.
  10. To reset your password, please visit the Student Helpdesk. (S136)
With Coins

Cost is ten cents per copy.

  1. Insert Coin(s).
  2. Place document onto copier and close lid.
  3. Click "Preview" to preview scanned document.
  4. If desired, press cancel to return to paper settings.
  5. Press Start to print documents.

How to Scan to E-mail

BMCC EMAIL ADDRESSES ONLY
(EX: firstname.lastname@stu.bmcc.cuny.edu)

  • Place document onto scanner and close lid.
  • Scan document through machine.
  • Press the Send button.
  • Press E-mail Add Entry.
  • Press E-mail Address.
  • Enter your BMCC Student e-mail address.
    (EX: firstname.lastname@stu.bmcc.cuny.edu)
    Scanners will NOT send to personal e-mail addresses.
  • Make sure your e-mail address is correct.
  • Press Start and documents will send.

How to Print

  • Click "Print" in the Browser. After you click "OK" you will see this screen.



  • Username: Enter your BMCC wireless/Portal username, it can be up 21 characters (Ex: John. Doe).
  • Password: Enter your BMCC wireless/Portal Password. If you need help with the Password, go to Helpdesk (S136).
  • Click "OK."
  • A print job is saved for 2 hours at the Print Release Station.

  • Swipe your BMCC ID card on the side of the monitor or type your BMCC wireless/Portal username.
  • Enter your PIN (YYYYMM01) or type your BMCC wireless/Portal password and click “OK”.
  • Highlight your job and click "Print." You will see a screen showing the total price of the job and your balance. Click "OK" to Print. If you have multiple jobs on the Queue, click "Select All" and "Print" to print all jobs at once.
  • When you're finished, click "Done."

How to Web Print

Web printing can be done through both desktop and laptop computers.

  • Go to the BMCC website and click on BMCC Portal in the top-right corner.
  • Click on the Paper Cut Icon.
  • Click on Web Print. (Left Side)
  • Select Amount. Click Submit a Job.
  • Select a printer. Please select either BMLIB BLACK or BMLIB COLOR. Both are located under LIB OPEN AREA.
  • Click on Print Options and Account Selection.
  • Pick amount of copies, and click Upload Document.
  • Click Choose File. Select your file, click Open. Then click Upload & Complete.
  • Click the Jobs Pending Release tab and press print on the documents you wish to print.
Manage Your Account

  • Go to the BMCC website and click on BMCC Portal in the top-right corner.
  • Type username and password in the BMCC Portal.
  • Click on the Paper Cut Icon.
  • Click on Transaction History for an immediate breakdown of all past transactions made in the Library.
  • Click on Summary to view your past history and remaining funds.

Refunds

Refunds are issued if you lose money in the copy machine or the copier malfunctions - for example, if the copier jams or creases the paper.

  • Refunds are not issued if you copied or printed unwanted pages.
  • Refunds are limited to 20 copies (a maximum of two (2) dollars).
  • Refunds larger than two dollars require an investigation before payments are disbursed.

How to Get a Refund

  1. Complete the Refund form, available at each copy machine and printer.
  2. If there are bad copies, attach them to the form.
  3. Bring the White, Gold and Yellow copies to Room S410S or S410U.
  4. Keep the Pink copy for your records.
  5. Refunds are credited to your BMCC ID card on the spot or within two (2) business days if the problem needs investigation. You will receive an e-mail notifying you about the credit.
